INTRODUCTION

The library of D. R. Mane Mahavidyalaya, Kagal came into existence in 1984 with very small collection of 1700 books that housed in a very small portion of one room.

At present the library is housed in a separate specious room. Now the collection has been increased to 20000.The library also subscribes over 50 periodicals. 823 back volumes of important periodicals are available. Apart from these the library has about 165 Audio-visual materials.

In addition to text books and Reference books the library has books on Competitive Exams., Sports, Personality Development, Entrepreneurship, Computer Science etc. and also books on regional language i.e. Marathi

Book Selection & Acquision

  • Demands and suggestions from various departments are invited in the beginning of the academic year. Periodicals to be subscribed are selected by faculty in consultation with the librarian keeping in view the financial allocation.

  • Indian periodicals are subscribed directly to the publishers with the aim of procuring them as soon as the periodicals are published. Newspapers are purchased from local Newspapers agents.

  • However, number of student and faculty members, nature of curriculum, methods of teaching and funds available etc. these factors are kept in view in building the financial allocation.

Classification      

The library has adopted Dewey decimal classification scheme for book classification. Accordingly 18th edition of D.D.C issued. Collection is organized according to D.D.C with local modification.

Computerization

The library services are computerized. We have purchased ‘Easy and Useful’ library software from Vidyasagar Kolhapur. The library acquired 4pc/Core 2 due along one with one Dot Matrix printer. Bar – coding is also introduced and the bar – coding work is in process.

READERS SERVICES

Circulation Services

It is the part of library services with which all the users are familiar. The library has adopted a combination of Browne and Network charging system to suit the local needs and situation.

OPAC:  / Cataloguing

                 OPAC is online Public Access Catalogue. Using OPAC You will be able to find the information about the library Collection. User can Search the documents by entering Author Search, Title, Subject wise, Department wise List.

Reference Services

This service includes answers to the specific questions, identification of specific information and assistance in finding or using of information literature searches. A number of reference and information enquires comes to the library. Library provides reference services by using many reference tools like Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, Directories, Yearbooks Journals, Bound Volumes, and Gazetteers etc. available in library.

Newspapers Clipping Services

This involves Newspapers cutting on various subjects like career guidance, Employment opportunities, Biographies of eminent persons etc.

Current Awareness Services

The library brings out the following current awareness services

  • New Additions

The library displays the new acquisition of books on the new arrivals showcase. A list of books newly purchased is also displays on the notice board and this list is sent to the entire department to inform the users about the new addition in the library.

  • Periodicals Subscribed

The list of periodicals subscribed by the library is display on the notice board and it is sent to the entire department.

Resources Sharing / I.L.L

The college has Inter – library borrowing facility. The services involved the supply of the facility of reading materials on request from other libraries. In case if the material is not available in the library that can be borrowed from other library through inter – library loan.

We have linkage with the following libraries

  • B.ed.College,Kagal,Dist.Kolhapur.

  • Devchand College,Arjunnagar,Dist.Kolhapur.

  • S.B. Khade College,Koparde,Dist.Kolhapur.

  • Kamala College,Kolhapur.

Users orientation

User orientated program is conducted for new students at the beginning of the year.

  • Internet Access. /Electronic Mail (E – Mail)

  • The library has necessary infrastructure for providing Internet services to the reader. This facility enables students and staff to access information from anywhere in the world available through internet.

  • The library also provide E – mail facility to its users for academic purposes. This facility enables students and staff to send and receive messages anywhere in the world.

Scholar Borrow Card

Scholar Borrow Cards are issued only to scholar students. However, students appearing for competitive exams and those who are interested to appear for are availed of such facility. On this card only the books related to competitive exams and text are provided.

University Model Question Papers

University model question papers are procured after exams are over. They are classified, stapled and kept for reference to students and staff.

Ranganathan Day:

         On the occasion of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (Father of library science) Birth Anniversary, library observed 9th August as ‘Ranganathan Day’ to Know the reader about   Ranganathan contribution in the field of library science and importance of library and Library arranged lectures on “vachan Sanskruti” subjects

Book Review Competition:

          Reading habits would be Boosted by organizing competitions like the “Book Review”. This competition is one of the vigilant functions of library practices. Through this Practice librarian can stimulate reading habits among the students. This competition is taken as a competitive exam. & results are declared by the experts

Best Reader Competition :

          On behalf of College library have Started Best Reader Competition. Books are the Powerful media to develop human thinking power and recalling ability. This competition is organized and student is encouraged for reading a lot of books. Whatever students have read the books throughout year, according to the “Best Reader” is selected by taking interview/Exam.
