Brief Description
Department of English was established in June 1992 with the establishment of the college. The department runs B.A. – Bachelor of Arts (English) three year integrated course. Department has devoted teaching faculty to enhance the quality education.
Objective
- To enable the students to acquire various language skills.
- To introduce the students various genres of literature.
- To acquaint the students with various trends and movements in literature.
- To inculcate literary and critical sense among the students.
- To help them to appreciate the aesthetic values in literature.
- To imbibe professional skills among the student.
Course Outcome
Program Outcome
The student of B.A. at the time of graduation will be able to experience and exhibit-
- Critical Thinking: They will be able to check out the degree to which our assumptions behind our thinking and actions are valid and accurate, and look at their ideas and decisions from different perspectives.
- Effective Citizenship: They demonstrate deep social concern and equity based national development, and the ability to act with on informed awareness of issues, and participate in civic life through volunteering.
- Social Interaction: They are able to elicit views of others, meditate over disagreements, and help reach conclusions in group settings.
- Sense of Ethics: They are able to recognize different value systems including their own, understand the moral dimensions of their decisions or actions and accept responsibility for them.
- Environment and Sustainability: They understand the issues of environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge of and need for sustainable Development.
- Effective Communication: They are able to effectively listen, speak, read and write and in person and through electronic media in English and in one Indian language and make the world meaningful by connecting people, media, books and technology etc.
- Self-directed and Life-long Learning: They will be able to engage in life-long and independent learning in the broader context of socio-technological changes.
Program Specific Outcome
After completing graduation in B.A. with Special English the student will be able to experience and exhibit –
- Structure of English: They will have perceived the structure of English language and its Phonology, Morphology and Syntax.
- Linguistic Competencies: They will be able to speak fluently and write correctly in English.
- Grammatical Correctness: They can differentiate between grammatically correct and incorrect use of English.
- Situational English: They will get acquainted with situational English especially in spoken mode.
- Interview Techniques and Group Discussion: They will face interview confidently and take part in GD successfully.
- Career Skills: They will able to write applications letter for job, prepare C.V., draft business reports, office orders, memos, e-mails and circulars effectively.
- Literacy capabilities: They will able to understand, enjoy and appreciate works in different genres in English with critical insight.
- Human Values: They will show concern and respect for Universal Human Values system and accept responsibility for them.
- Retinal and analytical thinking: They will exhibit retinal and analytical thinking before decision making.
