Brief Description

Department of Geography was established in June 1993 with the establishment of the college. The department runs B.A. – Bachelor of Arts (Geography) three year integrated course. Department has devoted teaching faculty to enhance the quality education.

Objective

• To impart the Knowledge of human and physical geography.
• To make familiar the students regarding the physical set up and highlight geographical scenario of the country.
• To introduce the students about map work and map interpretation.
• To enable the students about the use of advanced tools and techniques in the subject.
• Student should get knowledge of resources through fieldwork at local and regional level.

The student of B.A. at the time of graduation will be able to experience and exhibit-

• Critical Thinking: They will be able to check out the degree to which our assumptions behind our thinking and actions are valid and accurate, and look at their ideas and decisions from different perspectives.

• Effective Communication: They are able to effectively listen, speak, read and write and in person and through electronic media in English and in one Indian language and make the world meaningful by connecting people, media, books and technology etc.
• Self-directed and Life-long Learning: They will be able to engage in life-long and independent learning in the broader context of socio-technological changes.

Program Specific Outcome

After completing graduation in B.A. with special Geography, the student will be able to experience and exhibit –

• Understand the significance of Geography among the Earth Sciences and their interrelationship.
• Acquire knowledge on the elements and factors of climate and its influences on mankind in the Global Perspective.
• Assess man-nature relationship and resource management.
• Handle and interpret statistical data and model building.
• Prepare maps on different themes.
• Acquire expertise in survey work by using plane table and prismatic survey mode.
• Acquire knowledge about field survey, excursion tours.
• Understand recent Geographical studies such as Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Geographical Positioning System (GPS).
